More Than Just Coffee

And yet, I feel a small sense of unease with it. Even the same words can carry a meaning beyond the words themselves, depending on who speaks them, at what moment, and with what feeling behind them.

By receiving those words in that moment, and sensing the background and the feeling carried within them, I believe we can nurture a connection that goes beyond words.

This is something I feel constantly when I face customers at Botarhythm Coffee Roaster. Coffee is a simple drink, but I roast each batch hoping it becomes something more than just "delicious," hoping that each cup carries a particular meaning for the person drinking it.

The conversations with customers who visit the shop are part of that. Sometimes I hear, "I want to drink this with my family." Sometimes a cup is chosen because "I've been tired lately, and today at least I want to treat myself." Or someone tells me, "A friend came to visit the other day, and they were so happy when I served this." Each cup carries a thought for someone important to that person, or for themselves. When beans are chosen in that way, I feel something more in it than just "delicious coffee."

I also receive messages afterward from customers who purchase online. Some choose a bag of beans because "I'm going home to my parents for the first time in a while, and I want to brew this for them." Others say, "I want to send this to a friend who lives far away." Even across a distance, I put care into the packaging while imagining the moment it will reach someone important to that person.

And every time I receive a message saying, "it arrived, thank you," I feel something that reaches beyond words as well.

I also take care to explain the intent behind the roast and the character of the beans to the partner shops that serve Botarhythm coffee.

The coffee served at each of those shops carries not only my own hopes, but the feelings of the people at each shop as well. When a customer picks up a cup there, it is no longer "just a cup." It takes on its own meaning, layered together with the atmosphere of that place and whatever that person is carrying with them that day.

Coffee is a small, everyday pleasure, and yet it wears a different expression in every single moment.

The same is true of the relationships with customers. It is never simply a repetition. Each cup carries its own warmth, and I feel as though it settles alongside each person in its own way.

What matters most to me is that a connection beyond words can be born through coffee. In that moment, a simple drink becomes something a little special, woven quietly into everyone's daily life.

I hope that Botarhythm coffee can bring a little rest and comfort to a moment in your day.

If that one cup can reach beyond mere "deliciousness" and offer something that resonates with you, there is nothing that would make me happier.

And so, tomorrow again, I will face the roasting machine.
