A vessel that pours the memory of the satoyama - Botarhythm Coffee Roaster × Kazuaki Shimura
A mug where the sensibility and skill nurtured in the satoyama of Minamiboso come together. The Botarhythm original mug was given form by ceramic artist Kazuaki Shimura of awan kiln.
Two original mugs
● White Sand Mug
A standard size mug where a blue design stands out against a white ground that recalls white sand.
The symbol mark is embossed into the design, and the Botarhythm lettering is inscribed as well.
So that you can take your time at home with the way coffee shifts in flavour as it changes temperature in the cup, the capacity is a generous 300ml or so. (About 240ml filled to eight tenths.)
● Deep Sea Mug
A smaller mug with the whole surface steeped in a gradation of blue.
Its deep, beautiful colouring is its character, showing a mysterious face like the deep sea depending on the light.
The size is just right for a coffee break and suits everyday use. The capacity is about 220ml. (About 180ml filled to eight tenths.)
Handwork that makes a vessel like no other
Shimura uses a special clay brought in from the Kutani ware region of Ishikawa Prefecture, shapes it on the wheel, trims it after it has dried enough, and finishes each piece carefully by hand. The translucent quality that only porcelain has, and the brown glaze at the rim that adds warmth, make it a vessel that stays close to daily life.
The painting uses a pigment called gosu, based on cobalt. Fired at 1,260 degrees, the porcelain absorbs no water, meets the lips smoothly, and lets the delicate aroma and flavour of coffee come through more clearly.
*Because each piece is made by hand, the shape, pattern and colouring are not exactly alike. Please enjoy the individuality that only handwork brings.
"Making a moment over a cup richer with exceptional coffee beans"
Botarhythm holds that coffee is something that creates a connection beyond words. A cup in the morning light, a cup that colours a conversation with someone close, a cup beside a book on a quiet night. In each of those moments, this mug will add a warmth of its own.
A collaboration between Shimura and Botarhythm, nurtured in a life lived in the satoyama of Minamiboso. A special piece that makes the ordinary hours of a day richer.

About the artist
Kazuaki Shimura
Born in 1979 in Tateyama, Chiba Prefecture. After training in Kyoto and Ishikawa Prefecture, he now keeps a studio named awan kiln in Minamiboso. His creed is to make warm vessels that suit modern life while learning from what is old and good, and he works across many techniques, from pictures drawn in gosu blue on a plain white ground to blue and white porcelain.
"I make vessels that bring out the food, so that the table is a little brighter each day. I hope conversation is born there and that the table becomes a happy one."
