A vessel that pours the memory of the satoyama - Botarhythm Coffee Roaster × Kazuaki Shimura

A mug where sensibility and craft nurtured in the satoyama countryside of Minamiboso come together. The Botarhythm Original Mug was given form by ceramic artist awan kiln, Kazuaki Shimura.

Two original mug designs

● White Sand Mug

A standard-size mug on which a blue design stands out against a white ground that calls to mind a white sandy beach.
The symbol mark is designed in embossed relief, and the word Botarhythm is inscribed as well.
So that you can enjoy at home, unhurried, the way coffee's flavor shifts along with the change of temperature within the cup, the capacity is generous at about 300ml. (About 240ml filled to eight-tenths.)

● Deep Sea Mug

A smaller mug whose entire surface is steeped in a gradation of blue.
Its deep, beautiful coloring is its hallmark, showing a mysterious, deep-sea-like expression as the light shifts.
A size just right for a coffee break, perfect for everyday use. The capacity is about 220ml. (About 180ml filled to eight-tenths.)

Handwork that gives rise to a one-of-a-kind vessel

Shimura uses a special clay sourced from the Kutani-ware region of Ishikawa Prefecture, shaping it on the wheel, trimming it after suitable drying, and finishing each piece carefully by hand. With the translucent quality unique to porcelain, and the brown glaze at the rim of the drinking edge lending a touch of warmth, it is a vessel that sits close to daily life.

For the painting, a pigment called "gosu," with cobalt as its main component, is used. Fired at a high temperature of 1260 degrees, the porcelain is non-absorbent, with a smooth feel on the lips that lets you sense the delicate aroma and flavor of coffee more vividly.

*Because each piece is handmade, the shape, pattern, and coloring are not exactly identical. Please enjoy the individuality that only handwork can bring.

"A more enriching moment over a single cup, with exceptional coffee beans"

Botarhythm believes that coffee is something that gives rise to "a connection beyond words." A cup in the morning light, a cup that colors a conversation with someone dear, a cup to accompany reading on a quiet night - in each of these moments, this mug is sure to add a special warmth.

A collaboration between Shimura and Botarhythm, nurtured within a life lived in the satoyama countryside of Minamiboso. A special piece that makes the casual hours of everyday all the richer.

Artist profile

Kazuaki Shimura
Born in 1979 in Tateyama City, Chiba Prefecture. After training in Kyoto and Ishikawa Prefecture, he is now a ceramic artist with a workshop in Minamiboso City that he has named "awan kiln." With the credo of "learning from the good things of old while making warm vessels suited to modern life," he creates works employing a wide range of techniques, from paintings drawn in the blue of gosu on a plain white ground to blue-and-white porcelain.

"I make vessels that bring out the best in a dish, so that the daily table may be a little more lively. I hope conversation arises there and a joyful table spreads out around it."
